Terra Cotta Pots

wminmex@ asks:

Question

How or what can I use to seal the interior of a tera cotta pot ? I plant various flowers/plants in them and the "black seal" that the nursery puts on them seems to kill off the plants. It takes a while, but they all die. Any help is appreciated. Respectfully submitted, Wesley Weston

Answer

I know some people use heave duty plastic bags with a hole cut in the bottom for drainage and trimmed around the top to hide it from site. The plastic bags are an easy less messy alternative to sealants.

I don't know of a specific product that works better than another. Seem odd the nursery would use something that would cause plants to decline in health.

Thanks for the question!
