Willow Arch

Mrs.Dianne Giblin asks:

Question

The willow arch in my garden is covered all over in black flies, is this usual? How do I get rid of it without chemicals?

Answer

Flies gathering on willow trees is not a common thing as far as I know. I can only assume there is something in the area that is attracting them and they decided to congregate on your willow arch. The flies will most likely move on soon enough but if you would like get rid of them quicker without chemicals fly traps could help or spraying the willow regularly with a strong stream of water.

By the way you have a lovely garden. Thanks for the question.
