This is a small shrubby tree. The foliage is finely cut that hold their color all summer before turning scarlet in fall prior to leaf drop. Prefers moist well drained soil conditions with good organic matter. In climates with high summer temperatures Japanese maples will require after noon shade to prevent leaf scorch.
