Magnolia liliiflora 'Nigra' is know for its cold hardiness, and beautiful flowers with dark purple-red outside and pink inside. A small tree or shrub, slow growing, eventually forming a graceful upright, open habit to around 10 feet tall and wide. Performs best when planted in moist well-drained, humus-rich soil, neutral to slightly acidic. Regular water throughout the year and more when temperatures are extremely high.
'Nigra' is a cultivar of the M. liliiflora species, a species native to Asia and one of the first to be exported to the West.
