Best planting time for Veggies

Sonny asks:

Question

Is there a better time of day morning or afternoon to put my vegie starts into to outdoor garden?

Answer

In general the best time of day to plant veggie starters or any new plants for that matter is late-afternoon/evening, after the hottest part of the day [around 4 pm in most areas]. Planting later in the day will reduce stress on the plant caused by warm soil and air conditions that may pull the moisture out of the rootball causing the plant to wilt. Plant later in the day and water it in good, the over night will give the starter time to relax in it's new home before the sun hits it.
