Miss Kim Lilac

Sharon asks:

Question

I have a Miss Kim Lilac that has ALOT of blooms, but they are not opening. I do not fertilize this plant. What am I doing wrong?? I live in SE Michigan.

Answer

Miss Kim Lilac shrub is very particular about it's watering, too much or too little water can affect the plants flowering. Overly saturated soil can cause blooms to suffer and eventually lead to the decline of the entire plant if the soil conditions do not improve. On the other hand Miss Kim Lilac is rather drought tolerant however extreme drought conditions can affect the flowering. The soil should be moist but not wet, lilacs do best in well drained soils.

Consistency will benefit the health of the Lilac try to avoid heavy watering followed by extremely dry conditions.
