PALM PLANT

BARBARA asks:

Question

HOW TO CARE FOR AN OUT DOOR PALM PLANT IN A CONTAINER

Answer

  • -Select a large well drained container one large enough to allow for several years growth. Depending on the species they can become very heavy and difficult to transplant.
  • -The soil should be moderately fertile, corse and with good pore space to allow for good drainage. Palms do not like wet feet.
  • -Place the palm in full-sun.
  • -Water regularly. Dig down with your fingers if the top 2-3 inches is dry, its time to water.
  • -Fertilize with palm a specific fertilizer often or as directed by the package. Palm specific blends of fertilizer have specific micro nutrient palms need to thrive.
  • -In climates with cooler wet winters reduce watering, when palms are not actively growing they need less water.
  • Good luck!
