Peach seed planting

Billie asks:

Question

When should I plant a peach seed and should I crack it open befor planting?

Answer

Peach seeds should be sown about 4 inches deep in a container outdoors in the fall, you should see growth in late spring.  Once the seedling has reached 5-6 inches it is time to transplant to a location with moist but well-drained, moderately fertile soil in full sun. There is no need to crack the outer shell of the pit off before planting. I recommend covering the pot the seed is in with a piece of shade cloth or screen to keep squirrels from digging it up. Good luck.
