Slopes / ground

AnJanette asks:

Question

Ok here goes - ground is clay / rocks in Waynesboro,Virginia on a slope --what kind of ground cover / flowers will cover fast and last ? Also only water source is bucket and its full sun -- thank you ahead of time

Answer

Unfortunately with those types of growing conditions there are no ground covers you will find that will grow as fast as you would like, most are low growing shrubs.

Here are a few:
- Juniperus chinensis 'Pfitzeriana Compacta'
- Juniperus conferta 'Repanda'
- Cotoneaster dammeri 'Coral Beauty'
- Cotoneaster salicifolius 'Scarlet Leader'
- Berberis x gladwynensis 'William Penn'
- Diervilla lonicera
- Juniperus horizontalis

All will require regular water for the first year as they get established. Once established they will only need water periodically.
