Soil Adjustment

Roy Hughes asks:

Question

I live in North Louisiana and grow giant watermelons.I need to add Magnesium, boron, and copper to my soil. How do I do this without disturbing the other nutrients that are where I want them?

Answer

Watermelons are heavy feeders I would start by preparing the planting area by adding seaweed, compost, or rotted manure. Lay down several inches of manure topped by a couple inches of good planting soil, this should give you a good base for the plants to start. As the plants grow supplemental nutrients should be applied regularly (As label recommends). There are fertilizers on the market formulated for watermelons and others in their family.
