Tall (48")corn-like patio plant

Rita Nelson asks:

Question

Sold at nursery as a flowering ginger plant....multiples via root...split and repotted twice...still no bloom. What is it?

Answer

Sounds like you are describing Alpinia purpurata (Red Ginger). If it is truly a "flowering ginger" like the nursery said it could need fertilizer to bloom. There are around 200 species of ginger that would fall into the same category of ornamental ginger. If you attach a picture to another question I would love to better identify it for you or you can send it directly to contact@plantlifeonline.net. Attached is a photo of Red Ginger.
