What to plant in GA in the winter?

Teava asks:

Question

I live in south west GA, it is the beging of fall but it is still very warm in the day, My garden is in full sun for 6-8 hours a day. What type of fall/winter vegtables will do good and are realitivly easy to grow?

Answer

It is time to start sowing seeds August through September for any of the Brassica-family which include cabbage, broccoli, collards and similar vegetables. Carrot seeds can be sown from August to November in south Georgia. With the mild winters in South Georgia warm-season vegetables like tomatoes, cucumber and squash can be transplanted in August or September. Check out your local garden center for other starter plants which perform well in your particular climate.
