These perennials have tuberous, fibrous roots and can grow up to 18 inches tall. The growing plants can tolerate some frost, but they can be damaged by prolonged exposure to temperature below freezing. Prefers full sun, cool weather, and well-drained soil. The delicate flowers can be damaged by heavy rains so plant in protected areas where summer rains are common. Tubers should be planted in early spring or when the ground is workable in your location. Full grown plants can also be found in your local garden center in the spring. Remove tubers from the ground after the growing season to prevent them from rotting.
