Handsome purple leaf variety of redbud. New foliage emerges a shimmering purple-red and changes to a more subdued color as the season progresses. Before leaves appear the tree is covered with purple-pink flowers, darker than the species. As Forest Pansy matures, it takes a vase shape and tends to branch low on the trunk.
