The most wide spread fruit tree in the world. Fruit ripens from July to November depending on the variety. Most apple trees require a winter frost period, generally your local garden center will sell the varieties that do best in that zone. For best fruit production planting multiple plants will ensure good cross pollination. Most apple trees will reach 20 plus feet however for safety and easy of gathering fruit it is best to prune the trees to a height you feel comfortable with, around 7 feet is common.
