Sunflowers grow best in any well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil, add lime to acidic soil for best results. For strong stalks plant young plants a few inches deep covering a portion of the stem. Sunflowers prefer full sun they will stretch for the sun and fall over from their own weight if grown in partial shade. Enjoys regular watering but will tolerate periods of drought. Most 8 to 10 feet tall but many cultivars of all different heights are available.
