A dense, pyramidal, erect evergreen shrub or tree with glossy dark green leaves. The leaves are wavy with spiny margins, long lasting bright red-orange berries adorn the plant throughout the year. The plant can grow quite large however rarely does in the landscape. Best in moist well drained, hummus-rich soil, full sun for best leaf color. Prune regularly when young to shape. Many smaller verities are available such as Amber, Argentea Marginata, Ferox Argentea, Golden Milkboy and weeping verities Argentea Marginata Pendula.
