Larger fragrant star shaped reddish purple flowers appear in dramatic clusters in early spring. The flowers scent is described as "spicy sweet". Typically open, upright form with medium green clean foliage. The deciduous shrub reaches 6 to 8 feet tall and 5 to 6 feet wide; it takes full sun, or light shade in the hottest climates. Like most lilacs 'Declaration' preforms best in regions with cooler winters.
