The Southern live oak has different growth habits depending on its location. Those closer to the coast tend to be low-growing shrubs, while those further inland grow to 60' in height and over 100' wide. Bark is longitudinally furrowed. Acorns are small and tapered in shape. Young trees tend to have low branching and are more shrub like, height comes with age. In nature sprouts may emerge from the root collar and roots. Grow in well drained soil in full sun.
