Burnt Leaves

Yao asks:

Question

I planted a peachcot tree in later April. I live in Phoenix, it is very hot in summer. I watered my peachcot tree every day. The soil is moist under the tree, but I still have leaves burnt. I wonder what I can do?

Answer

Try covering the area around the tree with 4-6 inches of light colored wood chip mulch. The mulch will keep the roots cool and reduce evaporation. The cinderblock wall behind the tree is most likely reflecting heat toward the tree as well. How is the drainage? Make sure your tree is not overwatered and sitting in water, often the symptoms can look like not enough water.
