Do used coffee grounds have any use or value in a vegetable garden?
Answer
There are many stories out there about the benefits coffee grounds in the garden, some with truth to them others well... My school of thought is that coffee grounds can be a great additive to a compost pile because of their high nitrogen content however because of the grounds low ph, lime should also be added to make the compost remain more neutral. Non-composted coffee grounds should not be used around flowering plants, fruits or vegetables the high nitrogen can cause a flush of foliage reducing the yield of fruit, veg or flowers. Acid loving plants like azalea and rhododendrons will benefit from the additional acid the coffee grounds supply.
