Dead heading roses and geranium
schoushirley@ asks:
Question
Where do you cut the dead blossums off roses and geranium plants?
Answer
It is common practice to find the point on a rose stem where the first leaf has 5 leaflets is located and make your cut just above that point. (See diagram) When pruning roses with flower clusters remove the spent flowers as they occur or the entire flower set all at once. To dead head your geraniums simply remove the entire flower stalk from with in the plant. Dead heading will promote new flowers and healthy growth.
