Questions & Answers
English lavender and puppy pee
Question
I received english lavender as a gift last year. My daughter got a puppy and during the winter I caught her peeing on the plant. As I have never had this plant before, this spring it is gray in color. Is this still a viable plant or do I need to get another one?
Answer
As long as the plant has new growth and appears healthy you should be fine. If the plant is dry and brittle throughout with no signs of life it maybe time for a trip to the nursery. If only parts are dry and brittle simply remove the dead with a pair or pruners. All lavenders can handle a good deal of pruning, in fact cutting it back at the end of each season will keep it from getting woody and over grown. Depending on the variety of english lavender it may just be the color of the foliage this time of year.
