Jujube stem
Question
I planted a bare-rroted jujube tree, the leaves have grown out. However there is no stem bud growing. I doubt the top piece of the tree is dead. Shall I cut it to make a stem bud grow?
Answer
From your photo it looks as thought the main leader of your jujube tree was cut back to force out more lateral growth which is common with young trees. You can prune the top most portion of the stem back to 1/2" above the next lateral branch but it is not necessary, most likely no new leader will develop from that area. I would leave it for this season and as the tree develops train a new leader to take over by directing (by pruning or tying) a lower vigorous stem upwards. Hope this helps.
