When growing onions for bulbs should I remove the seed heads when they begin? My onions have great tops but do not bulb as they should.
Answer
You can remove the flower stalks if you want but once they send up the flower stalks there is nothing you can do, the bulb will be edible but smaller. Its best to eat these onions as soon as possible as fresh onions because they will not cure and store like other onions once they flower. Onion flowering or "bolting" is caused prematurely because of largely fluctuating temperatures.
