Saving An Evergreen Tree
Question
I moved an evergreen tree that is about 20 yrs old and the landscaper told me he couldn't get the (BALL) that should have come up with the rest of the surrounding dirt. He replanted it but all the needles are brown and brittle, inspite of my constant watering and plant food on regular basis. What can I do to save this tree? Thank you.
Answer
Unfortunately once evergreen conifers begin to become brown and brittle as you describe they are often on their way out. If the tree does survive it will never look the same, evergreen conifers will not fill in the areas that had the died back. Keep watering but be sure the plant is not sitting in water. No need to fertilize, it may cause more stress by pushing the tree to produce new growth above ground instead of new roots.
