Should I Prune My Raspberries?
Question
My Raspberry is doing well, there are new shoots, tall and fruitless should I prune those down or should I leave it for next year?
Answer
How To Prune Raspberries:
Raspberry varieties known as "Summer Red" should be pruned twice a year. First in the spring removing all weak or broken canes and cutting back tall canes over 5 feet. The second pruning consists of removing the canes that produced fruits (Second year canes), right after harvest.
The "Everbearing" variety of raspberries are commonly cut to the ground in early spring however they can be pruned same as Summer Red raspberries if desired.
