Sago Palm

The sago palm is not actually a palm as the common name implies, it is in fact a member of the Cycadaceae family, which dominated the landscape over 150 million years ago. A very symmetrical uniform growth habit with dark green 3-4 foot long leaves set atop a shaggy stout trunk. The sago palm may eventually reach 10 feet over 50 years. Pups may begin to develop at the base of the trunk eventually forming a multi-trunk specimen. Grow in fertile well-drained soil in partial to full-sun. Water moderately during the growing season and less during the winter months.
