May reach twelve feet in height and has silvery plumes that are well-separated above the foliage in late summer. The leaves eventually drop off in winter, leaving the stems. A clumping grass, giant spreads and enlarges slowly with short underground rhizomes. Requires plenty of water during growing season and prefers dry winters.
