Brussels sprouts are a hardy, slow-growing vegetable belonging to the cabbage family. It can be grown with some success in most areas of the country. In mild areas, sprouts may overwinter in colder climates. Better grown in cooler climates, in hotter areas the sprouts may become bitter. Plant in mid-summer and allow to mature throughout the winter. Keep moist and supply a nitrogen fertilizer soon after the plants have established or are around one foot tall.
