This member of the grass family and also a true sugar cane makes a great ornamental addition to any landscape. It has chocolate and plum-purple colored grassy leaf blades borne on attractive rich purple canes that will reach 8-12 feet in height. A tropical native grown as a tender perennial throughout most of the US, 'Pele's Smoke prefers average to humus rich soil with abundant moisture and full sun.
