A dense mound-forming ornamental grass developing purplish pink spikelets in summer to autumn along up-right arching panicles. Leaves are mid-green, thin and rough-textured. Prefers average to rich well-drained soil conditions in full sun. Good ornamental grass use as an accent, filler or specimen plant, good container plant. Best color in full sun. Will not overwinter in cold growing regions. Common cultivars include Pennisetum setaceum 'Purpureum' and 'Rubrum' 3-4 feet tall, thin burgundy leaves, purple flowers.
