Muskmelon, or cantaloupe as it is known in the US, is a tender, heat-loving vegetable. Most varieties of the muskmelon have a musk smell; thus the name muskmelon. Muskmelons may be directly seeded or started as transplants, plant after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed and dried. Frost and very wet soil will keep the seeds from germinating. This includes orange and green (honeydew) fleshed melons. Generally require between 75 and 100 days. Technically an accessory fruit but culture in more like that of a vegetable.
