The dead foliage hangs down creating a shirt around the base of the crown in most cases the leaves will drop naturally, in the majority of landscape applications the dead fronds are removed for aesthetic reasons. Plant in full sun with room to grow, prefers well drained sandy soil. Once established very little water is need. Poor drainage and standing water can lead to disease.
